George McMurdy
George McMurdy is a resident of Surf City, NC, since 2016. He has been wood-turning for close to 10 years, with many hours in the last 18 months. As a member of the AAW in Wilmington, he has board responsibility for Safety and a few other initiatives. He is also an assistant turning instructor for beginner & refresher courses in our club lathe shop.
George’s initial focus on Woodturning was directed to technique, tooling, design, shapes and forms, while creating functional turnings. His current work, larger detailed art forms, includes elements of multi axis/offset turning, laminates, inlays, textures and or subtle coloring.
His education (BSME), and long term career in Polymer component manufacturing, has helped him in learning the design and mechanics of turning, that are required to achieve his goals.
