Kirstin O’Malley
Kirstin O’Malley grew up in the mountains of Boulder, Colorado. Spending summers playing amongst rocks and creeks, she gained a deep appreciation for nature. As an adult she moved to California, where she attended Humboldt State University, studying ceramics with Louis Marak. Since then she has continued to refine her craft by attending workshops around the country. Currently she resides in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Her work is a reflection of her love for nature as well as human beings. She finds purpose and meaning in creating useful objects that look as if they are the result of natural forces, inviting light to play on the surface and cast a pleasing shadow. When she’s working on a functional piece, she likes to think of someone drinking from the cup she’s made, or sharing a specially prepared dish in one of her bowls. Her sculptural pieces are intended to be a feast for the eyes and the soul, and her figurative works are often a commentary on the human condition.
