Bowen Beaty
Bowen Beaty is a classically trained artist using black-smithing techniques in order to build and restore architectural ironwork. He pivoted from using these techniques architecturally into creating sculpture. Through the use of heat and pressure, steel can be shaped like clay. Every one of his sculptures has been made out of a large block of steel that has been heated and hammered into shape. Bowen’s sculptures seek to create a stark contrast between the industrial forms typically associated with steel and the more natural and flowing forms that can be achieved through the forging process. The unity of these two concepts is meant to create sculptures that celebrate the properties of steel and the process of forging it.
