GALE RAY

Gale Ray is an award-winning fine artist. After 34 years as a tapestry weaver, 17 years as a faux finisher, a lifetime of painting, Gale’s most recent work focuses on hand building pottery.

She currently maintains a studio in Charleston, SC where she works and shows her art.  Her subject matter includes coastal landscape, coastal images and one-of-a-kind hand-built pottery vessels inspired by the land and the sea.

“I think of myself as an artist with a painter’s eye and a potter’s hand. I enjoy hand building one-of-a-kind vessels using coil, pinch, and free form construction techniques. Seeing things in nature inspires me to take a lesson in texture and form. My work is inspired by the sea and the shore.”
