Jiri Kalina
Jiri Kalina is a woodworker, who lives and works in Wilmington. He is crazy about his medium and has been crafting handmade furniture since he was knee-high. Jiri’s dad was a skilled woodcarver and his grandfather worked on occasional projects restoring wooden parts on churches. It was genetically determined that their passion would rub off on him. Jiri’s father taught him about wood while he was growing up in the Czech Republic. Immigrating to the US was challenging for Jiri, but he was able to focus on his hobbies of music, poetry and wood crafts which helped the transition much easier.
Jiri believes that wood evokes many emotions. It is an ever living material that tells the story of human life throughout history. Can you imagine life without wood? What would man have done without it?
